Why Coulson P.C. Is Selective About Individual Cases
At Coulson P.C., many know us for our leadership in mass arbitration—we’ve conducted more arbitration trials than almost any other firm in the country. We’ve also received national attention for our class action practice.
But some of the work we’re proudest of involves representing individuals in catastrophic injury, sexual abuse, and wrongful death cases. These are among the most difficult cases a family can face, and we approach them with the same intensity and focus that define our larger-scale matters.
We don’t take every case that comes our way. Here’s why that selectivity matters:
1. Focus Is Built Into Our Model
Our class actions and mass arbitrations require extraordinary investments of time and resources—hundreds of hours and often hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses. That model shapes how we handle individual cases as well. By taking only the most serious, high-stakes matters, we ensure every client gets the focused attention and exceptional advocacy they deserve.
2. A Trial-First Approach
While some firms sign a case and hope to reach a settlement, we prepare every case for trial from day one. This approach ensures we are never caught off guard. If a case does settle, it’s because we were fully prepared to go before a jury. That preparation gives our clients both leverage and peace of mind.
3. Choosing the Right Case Types
We don’t handle routine auto accident cases in Michigan. Because of state caps on non-economic damages (like pain and suffering), recoveries are often limited. Firms that handle these cases typically must take them in bulk. That’s not our model. Instead, we focus on cases where the law allows us to make the most meaningful difference.
Why Clients Should Care
You wouldn’t store your grandmother’s diamond ring in the same drawer as loose change and spare batteries. It belongs somewhere safe, where it receives the care it deserves.
In the same way, a catastrophic injury claim is a valuable asset. It shouldn’t be one file among hundreds of routine matters. By being selective, we make sure that life-changing cases are handled with the intensity and precision they demand.
