Sturgis Hospital Data Breach Investigation

Coulson P.C., a leading class action and complex litigation law firm, is investigating a data breach reported by Sturgis Hospital.

What Happened:

On September 18, 2025, Sturgis Hospital notified regulatory authorities that the sensitive personal information of over 77,000 of its patients and/or employees had been breached.

According to a notice posted on the Sturg11is Hospital website, there were actually two separate data breach events. The first is claimed to have occurred in December of 2024, and the second in June of 2025. According to the hospital, “[b]ased on both investigations, we determined that an unauthorized third party possibly accessed or acquired some of our files.” The statement provides no explanation as to why Sturgis Hospital did not report either breach until September of 2025.

What Kind of Data Was Exposed:

Despite Sturgis Hospital’s claim that the exposed data was “limited,” it admits that the information includes:

  • Names

  • Contact information

  • Social Security Numbers

  • Financial Account Details (such as a bank account number)

  • Health insurance details, and

  • Clinical information—including prescriptions, treatment records, and similar medical details.
